drupa has escaped from the exhibition halls and into the heart of the city. Around 300 partner restaurants, stores, shopping malls and artists have devised some clever and interesting plans for fair visitors…

Düsseldorf restaurants are presenting themselves sunny side up. The programme ranges from a welcome drink, the drupaperitif, and a starter the drupappetizer, all the way to a complete meal. Particularly creative is Olives: it is serving a drupantastic 3-times red menu with drupamacchiato of lobster, grilled Red Snapper on red druparsnip-asparagus strawberry confit and red fried potatoes and drupanna cotta for dessert.

Shopping malls are also part of the programme. In the Kö-Galerie mall, models are presenting garments made of paper. In Schadow Arkaden visitors can wander along the drupartwalk through, for example, a landscape of geometric cardboard forms. A reading tent has been set up for children in Sevens on Königsallee. Readings are scheduled to take place from 3.30 to 6 p.m. Monday to Friday, and from noon to 6 p.m. on Saturdays and on the special Sunday of open shopping on July 1. Stilwerk has a special exhibition of designer furniture made of cardboard and paper designed by the Papp-Art project, installations by the artist Jo Pellenz.

More than 50 retailers offer first-class service, multilingual personnel, fair prices and discount campaigns. Carsch-Haus, Karstadt and Galeria Kaufhof refund sales tax to foreign trade-fair visitors and distribute candies. In the Reinmetall Studio, jewellery designer Gudula Roch stamps free of charge text requests in ring models specially made for drupa. The bakeries Hinkel and Bastians sell confectionary in the special drupa look. And the store Saturn is giving every fair visitor a CD with the drupa song. The shops are often open until 10 p.m. during the time of drupa.

For the first time, the Düsseldorf art scene is also heavily involved in creating the drupacity. 24 leading galleries exhibit works by artists such as Lothar Guderian or Otto Piene. Vernissages, guided tours and discussions take place every evening. The artists themselves are often present.
